Info prior to placing order

A bed, or bunk beds, in a dormitory subject to availability and booking. You can also book a dormitory(s) with a specific number of beds as a private room subject to availability. The whole hostel may be booked subject to availability and agreement.

Each dormitory has a wash hand basin with running water - usually hot and cold. All dorms are carpeted and have central heating. Subject to the boiler working and mains power availability.

You will have use of the Kitchen (0730 - 0930 and 1430 - 2230hrs), dining room, lounge, showers and toilets.

We provide free for your use and subject to availability - a light, self service breakfast in the morning 0730 - 0930 hrs, tea, coffee (during kitchen open hours), internet access (morning and evening), wifi may be available and there is normally use of a drying room and laundry facilities.

The hostel is closed during the day from 1030 - 1430 hrs for cleaning, staff rest and maintenance. If the weather is diabolical you may be permitted to use the lounge and outside loo during the time the hostel is closed.

You may be able to use the conservatory to store bikes, motorcycles may be parked in the hostel grounds. There is free on street parking close to the hostel for cars (assuming Cumbria County Council do not mess with it!).

This is a hostel - not a hotel so we expect you to wash, dry and put away any items used in the kitchen and leave it tidy for other guests please.

Terms and conditions:

We do not accept stag, hen or drinking parties. Groups may be asked for their activities and refused or admitted at the hostel staff's discretion. If you have booked for one of these group types and not declared this at the time of booking there will be no refund of any deposit or booking payments.

Booking deposit and booking service charge are not refundable.

If your booking is cancelled 48 hours before check in time on the day of arrival (1630 hrs) there will be no further charges. If you do not cancel within the 48 hour cancellation period we will charge the card used for the booking with the first night accommodation amount less the deposit already paid.

Children under 16 must be accompanied by a responsible person and supervised at all times on hostel grounds and inside the hostel - particularly in the shower rooms etc.

These facilities are the normal minimum and if we can not provide any of these items for any reason, we will do our best to ensure you have a comfortable stay despite the deprivations or provide a refund of that nights accommodation cost.

We ask that you show consideration to others in the hostel, the hostel staff and also the hostel premises and contents, and we expect you to be quiet in and around the hostel after 2300 hrs and to check out on the day of departure by 1030 hrs. We may allow luggage to be left at the hostel after checkout time or before check by agreement, as long as it does not inconvenience the hostel staff while cleaning and resting.

All items of personal property are your responsibility at all times while in the hostel or on the hostel grounds. Ambleside Backpackers Ltd will accept no responsibility for any loss or damage however incurred.

You may not bring into and use your own bedding in the hostel. All bedding is provided.

Sorry, no pets are allowed in the hostel.

Sorry no smoking anywhere in the hostel or grounds except at the designated area by the fire assembly point.

No naked flames anywhere in the hostel or grounds except in the kitchen at the gas cooker or at the designated smoking area. No burning of incense or lighted candles. Immediate expulsion will result without refund if this rule is broken.

This is a hostel - not a hotel so we expect you to wash, dry and put away any items used in the kitchen and leave it tidy for other guests please.

You may be asked to leave the hostel immediately if in the opinion of the hostel staff your continued presence in the building or grounds is considered to be detrimental to either the hostel, the neighbours of the hostel, the other guests or the hostel staff. The hostel staff opinion is final and there will only be refund for any full nights paid for  but not yet started.

All this apart, almost everyone who stays here really enjoy the hostel - we hope you will too!
